I still remember the worst days I had to type commands all days to create, edit and modify files and folders in MS DOS. Then I used Norton Commander and it was the greatest file manager which made computer users’ lives easier those days. It was a two-panel file manager and that kind still now inspires many modern file managers (for examples: Total Commander, Free Commander and Q-Dir, the four-panel file manager). Unfortunately, Norton abandoned it and they focus more on security products now. Yesterday, my friend told me about FAR (short for File And Archive manager) which is completely similar to Norton Commander. Those happy and exciting feelings came back. You can do all things with files using FAR, and it absolutely consumes nothing on our nowadays computers. It could be extremely useful when you can’t start Windows and use it to copy/backup important data before reinstalling or do some system reparations.
