My favorite IM used to be Yahoo as people around me using it, but since I’ve worked more online and need to chat back and forth with webmasters from various countries, I prefer Google Talk. It is integrated into Gmail, a great mail service that I believe people use most on the Internet at the moment, and it allows voice chat, and even video chat recently.
However, there one thing that Google Talk lacks is to provide the chat room which is an essential and necessary feature for online meetings and collaborations these days. But I believe Google has noticed this lack and it will add this feature soon.
Meanwhile, you can use a bot to mimic a chat room. Partychat is a chat bot that relays a message to all of users that are connecting to it. Besides, it also provide some useful commands to manage the chat room while you are connecting such as: /leave to leave the room, /list to show members of room, /kick to remove a member.
To learn more about Partychapp, you can read a recent post on MakeUseOf as well as the list of commands to manage the chat room. (read: How To Create a Google Talk Chatroom with Partychapp).
